With the upcoming release of Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Gray’s highly anticipated biopic on the group, former N.W.A. members Ice Cube and last month’s partial N.W.A reunion- featuring Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren at the B.E.T. awards, talks of an actual reunion aren’t so far-fetched anymore.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal chairwoman Donna Langley is planning together a N.W.A. European tour- reuniting the band and having Eminem as an “honorary member,” with rumors of him sitting in for the late Eazy-E. “We don’t have anything settled yet with everyone’s schedules,” said Langley. “But we think it can create a lot of buzz.”
Eminem is reportedly on the soundtrack for Straight Outta Compton, which might explain the choice to have him join the group. “It had a great potential of being done wrong and f—ing up our legacy,” said Dr. Dre to the Hollywood Reporter. “Our legacy is something that’s very important to me.”
N.W.A. were most recently nominated to be inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
