Rodrigo Amarante just released a new video for his song on his solo record Cavello. An incredibly beautiful video filled with stunning illustration and colors, you cannot help but fall in love with the smooth sounds of “Mon Nom”.
The video begins with two strangers meeting, one not speaking like the other. His speech (translated in captions in the video) is scrambled and garbled, causing a divide between him and society. Amarante’s approach to creating a character that is portrayed as an outsider is beautiful and creative. With the simple but beautiful illustration, the audience has the chance to focus on the story Amarante is telling with both his video and his song.
“Mon Nom” has an ethereal dreamy sound to it, almost as if you’re wandering the mountains and forests with the character we later learn is named Bruno. We watch as we hear Bruno’s story of being treated as an outsider because of the way he speaks, and as he journeys with this stranger we discover he is no different from any other human. The personal touch that Amarante includes in creating his characters for this story is beautiful. “Mon Nom” not only is a gorgeous beautiful song with incredible vocals from the former Los Hermanos and Little Joy man, but cultivates an incredible captivating story that keeps you hooked from the beginning of the video to the end.
Amarante moved from Rio de Janerio to Los Angeles to pursue music. The amount of identity he includes in his work makes him stand out both as a musician and storyteller. By falling in love with the song, you fall in love with the story. This is a true talent that Amarante has as a musician and something he seems to have thread within his solo album Cavello.
