Arcade Fire Announce Documentary The Reflektor Tapes And Release New Video For “Porno”

Canadian band Arcade Fire has announced that they are releasing a documentary and concert film. It is called The Reflektor Tapes.

The Reflektor Tapes follows husband and wife duo Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, as they work with their band to create Arcade Fire’s 2013 album, Reflektor.

Kahlil Joseph, who is known for his work with Kendrick Lamar and FKA Twigs, directed the documentary film, according to FloodMagazine.com. Joseph followed the Montréal sextet through their entire creative process. He began documenting their work on the material that would become Reflektor, when the band started plotting out songs in Jamaica, and he stayed with them through the recording process and subsequent tour in support of the album.

Some of the footage that Joseph shot, includes the band’s time in Haiti that featured an unplanned gig in their hotel lobby on the first night of the celebration of Carnival. Haiti has been close to the band members’ hearts, because Régine Chassagne’s parents’ were from Haiti. Eventually, the Chassagne family emigrated to Canada and settled in the province of Québec, when Haiti was under the dictatorial control of Jean-Claude Duvalier. And, since the 2010 earthquake struck Haiti, the members of Arcade Fire have been vocal about their support of the country’s recovery, following the devastating natural disaster, according to FloodMagazine.com.

The Reflektor Tapes documentary will be released to premiere in cinemas – on a limited basis – beginning on September 24th, 2015.

Additionally, in celebration and promotion of the film, the band has released the Joseph-directed video for the song, “Porno.” In this new music video, the viewers find Butler and Chassagne walking through out the streets of the Haitian city of Port-au-Prince. Apart from the main story line with Butler and Chassagne, the video centers on aspects of Haitian culture and their annual carnival celebration. And, in the end, the music video brings all of its threads together when the band is shown performing live at a festival in Haiti.
