Goodbye, our almost lover.
In a recent interview with LADYGUNN, A Fine Frenzy’s front woman Alison Sudol announced she would no longer perform under the band’s name. Her full statement reads:
A few years ago I put A Fine Frenzy to bed, which was a pretty big step for me. I needed to grow and the only way I knew how was to step away from it and the world that went with it. Maybe that was my own cage that I created, but I needed to let myself out of it.
She’s even cleansed her Twitter handle of the name, which is a Shakespeare reference. Sudol said that “making your vulnerability your career was really wearing…that was a big part of ending AFF” in the interview.
The Los Angeles musician began performing as A Fine Frenzy in around 2007. Her debut album, One Cell in the Sea, produced “Almost Lover,” which made singles charts in the U.S. and several European countries. Bomb in a Birdcage came two years later, and finally, PINES was released in 2012 (and made mxdwn’s top 40 albums of that year).
The retirement of A Fine Frenzy does not mean Sudol is done making music; she said she was “having so much fun in the studio” in the LADYGUNN interview. But, fans of hers have been able to find another outlet to support – acting.
Sudol is not just dabbling in Hollywood part-time; she is “a fully immersed, successful actor,” reported LADYGUNN. She’s landed roles on CSI:NY, Transparent, Dig and the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, while Elle named her “The 7 Most Exciting Newcomers on TV this Season.”
