Ever heard of the band Headless Chickens? Well, if not, you’ve probably heard of one of their members, Radiohead’s elusive frontman Thom Yorke. The band probably wouldn’t have gotten much attention today if it weren’t for Yorke, seeing as the band only released one song, “I Don’t Want to Go to Woodstock,” back in 1989. A video recently surfaced on YouTube showcasing young Yorke and his band performing an earlier version of the future Radiohead classic, “High and Dry,” Under the Radar reports.
The early version of the beloved single was performed live by Headless Chickens at Exeter University’s Lemon Grove in the 1980s. The five-piece band played the single almost 25 years ago, the song later made its way to Radiohead’s second record, The Bends, in 1995. Considering the video’s age, the quality is pretty top-notch.
Last September Yorke released his second solo record, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, his effort to gain hold on the electronic dance music scene. Back December he unveiled the single, “You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry,” which will likely resurface as an Atoms for Piece record. Yorke recently released the soundtrack for the British documentary, The UK Gold, a project he collaborated on with Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja.
