Sharon Van Etten’s single called “Words” was written and released for documentary movie for comedian Tig Notaro. Sharon Van Etten is a big fan of comedy herself and the movie will come out this Friday on Netflix discussing Notaro’s standup following a few incidents that personally happened to the female comedian: a near-fatal infection, the sudden death of her mother, a breakup, and her breast-cancer diagnosis. The three incidents inspired Notaro to turn to comedy and learn how to live her life to the fullest, while making the audience laugh in between skits.
“Words” is the song that will be featured in the end credits of Notaro’s documentary. Vulture recently streamed the single on their website. The tailer has recently been released and streaming on YouTube. Sharon’s song captures the balance between shortcomings of language and the power of speaking your feelings for a living. The movie will also play bits and pieces on the anniversary of Tig’s comedy skit that started almost three years ago following slices of Notaro working on her comedy while she tries to come to terms with her newfound fame, attempts to get pregnant, and falls in love.
Sharon Van Etten has previously released five-song EP, I Don’t Want to Let You Down, that came out last year. It is the companion album to her other album, Are We There. Sharon will perform in Los Angeles where the California city celebrates music and film all weekend during their Sundance Next Fest. Six films to be featured over the weekend will each be paired with special music performance or a conversation with filmmakers. Sharon has also released a cover of the late Karen Dalton’s song “Remembering Mountains.” The album, Remembering Mountains: Unheard Songs By Karen Dalton, was released May of this year. The album features unused lyrics written by Dalton from her self-published book Song, Poems & Writings. The lyrics have been given a voice through musicians Laren Halo, Lucinda Williams, Julia Holter, Marissa Nadler and Sharon Van Etten. Lyrics to the song “Remembering Mountains” that is sung by Sharon Van Etten, depict Dalton’s reflection upon the changing times, treasured relationships and memories from her past. In Dalton’s uncertainty, we find a glimpse of hope for what the future holds.
