This song is giving some great chill vibes from the first few beats, and it may show the direction Toro y Moi is taking with all of his new releases.
Recently we’ve seen Toro y Moi release new material just last June on Soundcloud. Not only have we got new releases but also new video for “Lilly”! Followers must be ecstatic about all of the new material we’re seeing from Toro y Moi. However, does the amount of work released recently mean a new direction for Toro y Moi?
By taking a step away from the chillwave electronica we are used to seeing with Toro y Moi, we might see some changes in new material. This is fairly evident in “Pitch Black”, with the new sounds and the obvious transition to a more hip hop sound. What is fun about Toro y Moi and the artists he works with are that he does not have a definitive genre, and he’s always changing up his style. This doesn’t make him unrecognizable as an artist, but instead shows the development he takes to try out new sounds and styles. It’s really fun to watch an artist play around with their talent to create some unique styles of music, and that’s exactly how Toro y Moi is experimenting.
