WATCH: Wavves Release New Video For “Leave”

A shot from the new music video created with the Rockstar Editor for Wavves' "Leave"

Bold. Cinematic. The Grand Theft Auto V Rockstar Editor proves its power and potential through an official music video for the pop-rock band Wavves’ single, “Leave”. Made entirely in the video editor, the piece showcases an impressively meticulous blend of electrifying action and skill for a track that initially premiered in the game. Explosions, guns, fighter jets. In a little over three minutes, the video unravels a group of criminals’ daring shot at breaking their leader out of Bolingbroke Penitentiary in broad daylight.

Rockstar launched a global competition in May, challenging the best in-game editors to create the official music video for “Leave”. With unique camera direction and stunning detail, Social Club member YeahMAP, a German gamer, won the editor contest. “No Mods were used to create this music video,” YeahMAP writes on YouTube. “It took us 4 weeks to film all scenes and edit them.”

Wavves’ track is featured on Welcome to Los Santos alongside  Tunde Adebimpe and Sal P & Sinkane’s “Speedline Miracle Masterpiece” and Killer Mike and MNDR’s hypnotic piece, “Lock & Load”. Rockstar Games describes the album as “a genre-spanning collection of music inspired by the world of Grand Theft Auto V”. Released in partnership with Mass Appeal earlier this year, it highlights beats that stretch from heavy rock to rap tinged with funk influences. The album is an adventurous musical journey through the fictional world of gangster-fantasy and action.

“Leave” evokes the straightforward but intense emotions of being trapped in a harmful environment and searching for an escape. YeahMAP’s winning video translates the song’s message in a literal and powerful manner, building on Wavves’ new release in collaboration with Cloud Nothings’ Dylan Baldi and the music of Grand Theft Auto V.
