Public Image LTD (PiL) just debuted their lead single “Double Trouble” to front their up and coming album What The World Needs Now that is set to drop September 4, 2015. On August 21, PiL will be releasing their newest single on 10” vinyl backed by “Bettie Page” (“It’s a homage to the late ‘Queen of the Pin-Ups’”), along with an additional bonus track entitled “Turkey Tits.”

“Double Trouble” premiered on Steve Lamacq’s 6Music show last week and has caused uproar among fans since.

John Lydon revealed that their new single was inspired by a disagreement with his wife over plumbing but shape shifted into uneasiness about relationships (as so many arguments do). Lydon himself designed and hand drew the cover art for “Double Trouble,” admitting it was partially inspired by Native American Hopi characters, which the Hopitu-shinumu (Peaceful People) tribe is famous for.

After going off the grid for 17 years, PiL reappeared on the global music map in 2012 with their groundbreaking album This is PiL. They are known as “one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time” and have earned five UK Top 20 singles, and five UK Top 20 albums for their sound and vision. With a constantly shifting set of band members, Lydon has been the band’s glue over the years, leading them from their debut album First Issue in 1978 to their 2015’s What The World Needs Now.

Current band members include Lu Edmonds (Multi instrumentalist and former guitarist in The Damned), Bruce Smith (Drummer in The Pop Group), Scott Firth (bass player/multi instrumentalist who has collaborated with Steve Winwood, John Martyn, and Elvis Costello), and of course John Lydon (front of the Sex Pistols before forming PiL in 1978).

The band’s newest album drop will kick off their UK/Europe tour beginning in Glasgow on September 18th, followed by a North American tour. Both What The World Needs Now and “Double Trouble” are self-funded by PiL and will be released on their personal label PiL Official through Cargo UK Distribution/Red Eye in North America.
