LISTEN: Daphni (Dan Snaith) Releases New Song “Vikram”

Dan Snaith, Canadian composer, musician and recording artist better known as Caribou, has released new song “Vikram” today under new moniker Daphni, according to Stereogum.

The dizzying new song relies on Snaith’s signature electro-beat. Snaith’s alter ego Daphni is reminiscent of Snaith’s other projects, Caribou and Manitoba, but even so you can definitely tell Snaith is trying to revamp and emerge with a fresher take on his highly acclaimed sound.

“Vikram” rests heavily on a repetitive synth for the first half of the tune, sending you in a bit of a craze while waiting for the next step. The formula most electronic songs, and most songs of this era, rely on is waiting for a beat drop. Rather than ever find an end point, however, “Vikram” sends the listener in circles, waiting for the next loop to take off.

The balance of the new tune is so well placed that even with the repetitive nature, you still want to play it over and over again.

Snaith has been releasing music since 2001. His music has been featured on the Billboard Top 200 list, has won him the Polaris Prize in 2008, two Juno Awards, and most recently, the European Independent Album of the Year for Our Love.

Snaith is finishing up what’s left of his 2015 tour. He’ll be playing in Oslo and Hamburg next month.
