LISTEN: Beach House Release New Song “Sparks”

Dream pop duo Beach House have released a new song “Sparks,” not long after announcing their 5th studio album Depression Cherry.

“Sparks” is a balance between the ethereal that Beach House has carried with them throughout all five albums and an influence that seems to stem from shoegaze sounds of two decades ago, a la My Bloody Valentine or Ride; a sliding electric guitar accompanied by reverb in a very stripped-down version of the band.

In the band’s press release, it reads, regarding Depression Cherry:

“In general, this record shows a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role. With the growing success of Teen Dream and Bloom, the larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies. Here, we continue to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist,” said the band of the album. “For us, Depression Cherry is a color, a place, a feeling, an energy… that describes the place you arrive as you move through the endlessly varied trips of existence…”

Depression Cherry is set to be released August 25th. Listen to “Sparks” below.
