Nine Inch Nails lead vocalist Trent Reznor has recently kept himself busy preparing for the launch of Apple Music. He currently serves as Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio chief creative director, a brand new radio platform available for consumers.
To commemorate the launch of the program, Reznor has released instrumental versions from two classic Nine Inch Nails albums that have been kept in the vault—until today, Consequence of Sound reports. This follows Reznor’s release of the Gone Girl soundtrack in the fall of last year. The instrumentals come from 1999’s double album The Fragile and 2005’s With Teeth.
Reznor emphasized the importance of Beats 1 to Rolling Stone in an interview:
Anything that makes music more important to people is worth it,” Reznor says. “Music is my entire life. It’s the only thing that I’ve been good at. I love it. I feel like it’s been my best friend. It’s something that has always given me focus, it’s always made me deal with anything, because I have this soundtrack. And I think that it’s something that’s become something that happens in the background rather than the foreground in the last 10 years or so. I’d like to nudge it a little closer to the foreground.
The Fragile outtakes can be heard here and With Teeth outtakes here. In order to listen to the albums you must be a member of Apple Music.
