The Devil Wears Prada have officially confirmed their latest record release in two years. The new EP, called Space is a metal odyssey through the vast reaches of outer space and beyond.
Many fans hit the proverbial panic button after Devil Wears Prada announced the departure of Chris Rubey back in March, yet they have just posted a new announcement that confirms that the band will be out in the recording and touring circuit once again. Soldering on without Rubey, The Devil Wears Prada have just confirmed the release window for their upcoming EP, Space, which will be the first record release by the band since 2013’s 8:18. The latter release was more or less critically lauded for its melancholic lyrics and low-key sound, yet that didn’t stop fans from eating that record up.
Their newest release sees the band going in a completely alternate direction creatively than their previous records. The six-track EP will be a concept EP of sorts in the sense that the songs and the record overall will explore themes of outer space and the mysteries that lie beyond our own planet. The record will feature a heavy metal kind of vibe and will also include the fully completed rendition of “Supernova,” which the band has performed live a few times before. Although the theme of the new EP will be different from other EPs that The Devil Wears Prada has released, it will still be linked to those same EPs, such as the Zombie EP in the sense that each EP has its own unique theme and that each of these themes connect to each other in some sort of larger narrative. Although the band has yet to elaborate on the overall progression of this particular narrative arc, it remains clear that The Devil Wears Prada has something new and exciting up their sleeve, and we can’t wait to hear what exactly that is.
Space will be released on August 21st.
