Damon Albarn is scoring musical called wonder.land, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. He premiered the trailer for the musical on Friday.
SPIN reports that wonder.land will debut at Manchester’s Palace Theatre next week during the Manchester International Festival. The musical will be in Manchester from Monday, June 29, through Sunday, July 12. It will open in London in November.
The trailer showcases a clip of a modern take on the Alice in Wonderland story, with a girl sitting on a park swing while scrolling on a smartphone. Images seem to burst from the phone and surround her, including a multitude of grinning Cheshire cats and colorful plants, as well as the large floating head of the classic Alice. Albarn’s music can be heard in the background throughout the trailer, which you can watch below.
Albarn has had no shortage of projects in recent years, releasing a solo album entitled Everyday Robots in 2014 and new Blur album in 2015 that almost wasn’t released. He has also announced the possibility of new albums for the Gorillaz and The Good The Bad & The Queen, and is collaborating on new, crowdfunded De La Soul album.
