There is a famous saying that something done in the past will always come back to haunt you. In this case, Jimmy Chamberlin’s past being the drummer for Smashing Pumpkins has come back to help the band with their upcoming tour alongside Marylin Manson in July of this year. But Chamberlin’s past as drummer for the band wasn’t considered a haunting experience. The Smashing Pumpkins’ drummer Mike Bryne left the band last year. Chamberlin is in fact excited to work the band again after going on to becoming the CEO of a technical company, LiveOne. For Chamberlin, it is a chance to hang out with some old friends.
“We’re thrilled Jimmy’s back in the saddle this summer to drive a super high-octane set, and it’s nice to see the stars aligning around Smashing Pumpkins anew. Jimmy’s drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it’s a very rare class of people that can step in and play,” said Billy Corgan.
“[Corgan] asked if there was any way I’d consider coming back for the tour. It’s a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy,” Jimmy Chamberlin said.
Jimmy Chamberlin was part of the original lineup of The Smashing Pumpkins from the nineties. However, 1998’s Adore was the first album without Chamberlin on the drums. The band eventually dissolved in 2000. Billy Corgan produced another album five years after the band broke up. Jimmy came back in 2007 to help with the album, Zeitgeist. Jimmy eventually quit The Smashing Pumpkins altogether in 2009. Mike Bryne joined The Smashing Pumpkins in 2010, when he was just 19 years old. In 2014, he left the band before they released their album Monument of Elegy. The band has enlisted other drummers like Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe and Brad Wilk from Rage Against the Machine in the past.
