Primitive Race has released a new single, “Follow The Leader” from their upcoming album for fans to get a taste of what is to come. Primitive Race’s self-titled album is due for release on August 7.
“Follow The Leader” touches on some of the social issues that Primitive Race feels is crippling society. The title itself plays on the idea that everyone’s obsessions are the same once one individual sets the tone. The track first comes across as quite mellow. Even as the group’s harsh criticism escalate, the drum and guitar tempo remain consistent. During the chorus, the group throws out intense commands to bring him their point that people crave to be told what to do and therefore will do anything.
Primitive race’s Chris Kniker gives his insight on the track in a statement released to New Noise Magazine:
“‘Follow The Leader’ could almost be the theme song for the band. It really captures the back handed meaning of Primitive Race. Crabbi did a great job coming up with lyrics that describe modern society. Everyone has their head buried at all times in their smartphones. People seem more interested in the latest celebrity trash and freemium games than dealing with real issues. We follow a global Oligarchy of the ruling class, politicians, religious zealots, and corporate leaders dictate their will on us with no questions asked.”
Primitive Race, made up of Chris Kniker (bassist, impresario, and Lords Of Acid manager), Graham Crabb (Pop Will Eat Itself, Erie Loch known for LUXT Blownload and Exageist), and Mark Gemini Thwaite (Peter Murphy, Tricky, Gary Numan), formed back in 2013. The group first seemed like more of a side project due to each members involvement in the music video. However, the upcoming release of their debut album serves as evidence that this group wants to be recognized and make a profound statement.
“My motivation for creating Primitive Race is simply, working with friends,” explained Kniker. “It started out as a fun outing but all of a sudden we realized we were on to something real and decided to go ahead and make a record.”
Tommy Victor, who collaborated with the group on songs “Acceptance of Reality,” “Seeing Right Through It All,” and “Taking Things Back” said, “I saw my participation in Primitive Race as a challenge. It’s really interesting to be presented with a killer piece of music to come up with a lyric and vocal idea for. It turned out to be a very enjoyable process, teaming up with some really talented people!”
