Electronic music icon Jean-Michel Jarre has been hard at work over the last couple of months developing his first record release in eight years, and the new record is building up to be a doozy. A new single which features collaborative work with Tangerine Dream entitled “Zero Gravity” has just been released, and the fantastic new recording leaves a wide swath of promise for the new record, a record which leaves all who hear the single in the firm belief that the last eight years have been worth the wait.
Jean-Michel Jarre has been releasing his highly electronic music since 1976, and the as of yet untitled new record that Jarre plans to release some time this year looks to be one of the recording legend’s best works yet. Featuring collaborative works with Massive Attack’s 3D, M83’s Anthony Gonzalez, and Gesaffelstein, the new record by Jarre will feature a highly eclectic mix of new electronic recordings done by both Jarre himself and several other recording artists. The first single released off of the record, “Glory,” recorded with M83, gave brief preview of the massive potential of the new record. The follow-up single to “Glory,” entitled “Zero Gravity,” takes the foundation that “Glory” established and expanded it by a factor of approximately, oh, nine hundred thousand. Yes, this new single is perhaps the best new electronic single that has been released by any artist this year. Clearly, Jarre is using all of his techniques that he has adopted over the last forty years. Currently featured in two separate versions, “Zero Gravity” features such dynamic and bold electronic sounds. It sounds as though a Viking horde has landed on our shores, but instead of sounding their arrival using some sort of animal horn, they are instead using a recording console and fat electronic beats. Jarre has not merely signaled his arrival meekly, he has shaken the San Andreas Fault Line of electronic music.
