Telekinesis Announce New Album Ad Infinitum For September 2015 Release

Telekinesis announced that they are going to be releasing a new full-length album, Ad Infinitum, on September 18th, 2015, via Merge Records. Then, the band will hit the road this fall with fellow Seattle-based indie band Say Hi, formerly known as Say Hi To Your Mom, for a North American tour.

Ad Infinitum is available for pre-order now on CD and limited-edition snow-white vinyl in the Merge store, and digitally via iTunes. And, all of the LP purchases will include three bonus tracks as a download.

When it came time to make the fourth Telekinesis album, the band’s drummer and creative force Michael Lerner found himself in his West Seattle home studio contemplating his next creative step. He had toured the world, shared the stage with some incredible bands and guest artists over the years, and enthralled fans to his brand of infectious power pop. Lerner was forced to confront the question that has haunted successful musicians: what do you do after you’ve achieved your rock and roll dreams that you had as a 19 year old starting out?

“I went down to the basement,” Lerner recalled in a press release, “and started playing the same chords I always play… I just felt like I’d exhausted everything I knew. I was not excited at all. I just could not make another power-pop album.”

Lerner’s trajectory is one of a number of releases in a rather short time frame. In just under five years, he had released three fantastic power pop style records—the self-titled Telekinesis! In 2009, 12 Desperate Straight Lines in 2011, and Dormarion in 2013, with each album being more ambitious than the last, according to a press release.

In shying away from the power pop sound, he opened himself up to using vintage sounds and production techniques that formed an album that harkens back to an early 80s sound, as described by a press release, with the final result being “Ad Infinitum, the most ambitious and assured Telekinesis release to date.”

On a related note, Telekinesis frontman Michael Benjamin Lerner joined KEXP’s John in the Morning to premiere the album track “In a Future World.” Check it out, along with the album’s cover art, below.

Lastly, don’t miss Telekinesis on tour this fall in the United States and Canada. Everything kicks off on October 1 in Bellingham, Washington, and we have compiled a list of the currently announced tour dates, below. So, take a look and see if the band is coming to a city near you!
