Think of the most outlandish thing a rock band would sponsor and you’ll have the topic for rock aficionados Thirty Seconds of Mars’ newest announcement. Yep, you read the headline right, the band have announced the launch of a three day summer camp experience stretching across August 22 to 24 in Malibu, CA.
According to a press release sent out today, the band, composed of Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic, have decided to launch their own three day/two night summer camp called Camp Mars. The camp plans to include everything you still remember from your old childhood memories of sleep away camps, even the s’mores, but with an added rock and roll edge only Thirty Seconds of Mars could add.
The first of its kind, the camp is designed for people who either never experienced what summer camp was like before or simply want to experience it all over again. The camp will include activities such as hiking, climbing, yoga, cooking classes, raising the flag, camp fire sing-a-longs, DJ sets as well as two performances from Thirty Seconds to Mars themselves and pictures with the band.
The band have sold over five million albums together and have toured all across the globe, so summer camp should be no sweat, right?
The camp is split up into different packages for each potential camp-goer to choose from. The lowest priced package is $400 and is called the Deer Package. This package includes one day of camp activities with food, beverages, and band performance included. The other one day package, the Rabbit Package, seems to include the same activities but is a bit pricier at about $550. The two one day only packages both include a photo with the band, DJ sets, hiking, ghost stories, movie nights, tug of war, cooking lessons and even spiritual teachings.
If you’re interested in staying the night, however, the rest of the packages are for you. Three of the overnight packages, The Rattlesnake Package, The Coyote Package, and the Red Hawk Package include guaranteed dorm or cabin accommodations, while the Tree Huggin’ Package, as the name suggests, allows campers to bring and stay in their own tents. The Tree Huggin’ package is the cheapest of the four, starting at close to $800, while the other three range from $1,200 to $2,000.
Tickets for the packages go on sale this weekend. You can read more about the packages and buy tickets on the official camp website.
