LISTEN: Little Boots Releases New Song “Working Girl”

Victoria Hesketh has attempted to straddle two differing personas throughout her musical journey, and the culmination of those two personas has been declared in the loudest way possible in her newest single, “Working Girl.” The single is the title track off of her upcoming record, due out in July.

Last year, Victoria Hesketh, the driving creative force behind Little Boots, released her Business Pleasure EP, an EP that saw her attempt to convey her image as both a business woman and a pop figure in the same package. The bold artistic statement made a lot of waves in both the music industry and the business world as well. Outside of maybe Mick Jagger, there are very few in the music world that utilize a strong business acumen and maintain that acumen outside of their given fields. Hesketh seems to be exploring relatively uncharted territory with the announcement of her new record, Working Girl, a record which will further explore the themes that were sparsely laid out in her EP. While the music industry has seen many powerful women before, there have been few, if any, examples of women whose ambitions branch out beyond the recording industry, thus Hesketh’s latest recording attempt seems to be the beginning of what could be a new revolution.

While the lyrics to “Working Girl” contain hints of struggle as Hesketh attempts to break into the business world. Here, she’s starting off fresh, essentially going through the “faking it until making it” phase of her early career. Although the lyrics are a little downbeat, the rhythm of the track changes the song to feel more inspirational than confessional. Hesketh’s not telling us that the struggle to be a working girl is too unbearable, rather she’s encouraging all the women who may be listening to the track, encouraging them to allow their ambitions to take them into a powerful, new world.

“Working Girl” is the second single release off of the new record. Hesketh has also released a video for the single “Better In The Morning” back in May.

Working Girl is set for a July release this year.
