Foals Announce New Album What Went Down For August 2015 Release

English indie rock band Foals have announced that they are returning with a new album this summer. On the 28th of August, the band will release What Went Down, via Warner Music.

What Went Down is the band’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, and follows 2007’s Antidotes, 2010’s Total Life Forever, and Holy Fire, which was released in 2013.

For their fourth album, Foals teamed up with producer James Ford of Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Jessie Ware, and Mumford & Sons fame, and the band retreated to southern France to record in a rural 19th-century mill.

The combination yielded a resulting record that is, described in a press release as, “a primal, intense, sometimes harrowing album of extremes – the record touches upon the depths of madness whilst also exhibiting some of the most beautiful pop songs the band have ever written.”

On What Went Down, vocalist Yannis Philippakis created lyrics that deal with topics like cultural identity, generational anxiety, cynicism, pessimism and heartbreak, according to a press release.

When asked about those themes being present on the new album, Philippakis said, “I wanted to tap into my inner madman and feel like I was channeling some sort of fevered creature”.

Additionally, and especially for our readers in the U.K., the album’s title track that serves as the lead single will premiere exclusively on Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1, this Tuesday, June 16th between 7-9pm (19:00-21:00) GMT.
