Elvis Depressedly / Mitski @ Bottom of the Hill 6/30

Heartbreakers and dream-makers, North Carolinian alternative pop band Elvis Depressedly has been constructing hazy lo-fi tunes from their first album release in 2011. As their name suggests, the lyrical content of their music has normally featured beautifully somber sentiments, but with their most recent LP, “New Alhambra” released just last month, they have taken a more seemingly optimistic turn.

Brooklyn darling, Mitski, will be joining Elvis Depressedly this June, co-headlining with the band on a nationwide tour this summer. As an alternative rock singer and songwriter, Mitski has accrued a total of three albums since 2013, most recently, “Bury Me at Makeout Creek,” released last November. Her expressive lyrics and beautifully tender voice complement the angsty drum riffs commonly featured in her albums, packing so much complex emotion that it is hard to listen to her music and not reflect on your bygone romances.

The fragility in both the lyrical content and the melodic construction is paralleled through each of these artists’ anthologies. Their individual performances are sure to be heart wrenching and as a paired tender experience, the emotional impact will surely be magnified.
