Run the Jewels performed in London’s Victoria Park this past weekend along with other musicians that are from England’s streets or from across the pond. Field Day is long standing concert series in London, England. Not only do the musicians who perform on the stages for two nights of endless music, but they also ride in the back of a taxi cab playing singles and songs that are also sung with other artists while riding around the streets of London and its neighborhoods before returning home after all their venues have been checked off their bucket list. It has been running for the past eight years and hopefully, the Field Day committee plans on running future events in Victoria Park. Run the Jewels sang alongside Boots and Mac DeMarco on June 6th in Victoria Park. Concerts are held every Saturday from 11:30am-11pm and every Sunday from 1pm-10:30pm. Their upcoming artists and musicians for Saturday and Sunday of this week will feature both local and non-native bands, with activities during the weekday to surge the crowd full of energy leading up to these wonderful nighttime performances.
Run the Jewels sang in a black cab session in London, England after working their magic onstage this past weekend. The rapper duo and other artists perform acoustic versions of singles from upcoming and past records in the black of London taxi cab. Some of the songs include DeMarco’s “The Way You Love Her” from his upcoming album Another One and Run the Jewels “Early” featuring Boots from their newest album Run the Jewels 2 (RTJ2). These black cab sessions are an online video series and in the video below Killer Mike and El-P rap in relatively subdued watching-the-scenery fashion, over the song’s instrumental track.
The video shows El-P and Killer Mike coolly running bars as a taxi navigates the streets of London. As Killer Mike delivers line about peering through a window, he waves at passengers in neighboring vehicles. Boots is also on hand to deliver the hook. The song sets up a memory to where a man is frisked by a cop for no reason, arrested in front of his family for marijuana possession, but when the songs is over, you’re left there sitting with him in the back of that police car, head spinning, wondering what happened next. The song is more than just some pretty sounds when the original video is playing. It is also a true reminder about the kind of people who often live through this day to day issue and trying to make something for themselves and their families. It is something that the musicians themselves want to leave you thinking about after watching the original music video.
