Pixies were announced as this year’s last night headliners at the Toronto Urban Roots Fest today, leading a lineup of huge names such as Of Monsters And Men, Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeroes, Wilco, the Avett Brothers, Neko Case and many more.
Held September 18 through 20 at Fort York/Garrison Common, this year showcases bigger names than its previous year. The popularity of artists showcased in the festival isn’t the only change, however. The festival has been move from July to September this year.
Also announced along with the news of the Pixies as the festival’s closing headliner was a list of new additions to the lineup, including Heartless Bastards, Ottawa’s Jim Bryson, Philly’s Hop Along and Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, bringing the total number of artists performing up to 52.
As well as the festival itself, there will also be a TURF Club Bonus Series, with events held at the Horseshoe Tavern and Lee’s Palace including artists performing in the festival. The lineup for these shows is set to be announced in early July. There will also be a kid’s acoustic stage during the festival with performances by Rattle and Strum, Kathy Reid-Naiman, and Steve Poltz.
