Beirut @ The Greek Theatre 10/10

Beginning as the solo project of Santa Fe artist Zach Condon in 2006, Beirut eventually evolved into the six-person alternative folk band we are familiar with today. Condon’s interest in world music, stemming from his job at a theatre of international cinema, along with his immersion in jazz as a teen trumpetist, combined to create an unequivocal influence on the band’s distinctive sound. Giving traditional Balkan folk a more upbeat facelift, Beirut combines the milieu of instruments featured in their songs with ambient electronica to portray a folk-pop genre that they have truly claimed as their own.

Not only have they perfected the beauty of their melodies, but Beirut’s vocals have such a heartfelt affection that Condon’s unaccompanied voice could probably almost have as breathtaking of an impact. They have continuously provided satisfying albums time and time again, only growing in the perfection of their unrivaled sound.

Beirut will be performing in Berkeley at The Greek Theatre this October, following the expected release of their newest album No No No in September. The title track was just released a few days ago and certainly did not disappoint, staying true to their distinctive uptempo folk sound.
