Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan recently announced that he had hip replacement surgery on the Facebook page of his solo project, Puscifer.
Keenan, who is 51, has been active while performing onstage and also just received his purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, according to MetalInjection.net. The singer seems to be doing well following the hip replacement. He posted a photo of himself post-operation with the following caption:
Didn’t want to freak anyone out, wanted to wait until out of the woods. Years of foot stomping left me with no cushion in my right hip. Full replacement yesterday. Walking today. 12 weeks, back on the mat to work towards that Brown Belt. OSS. #weshallovercome #bjjforlife
Earlier this year, Tool won lawsuit against them over the rights to the cover art of their 2007 album 10,000 Days. That lawsuit is the reason that Tool hasn’t released a new album in about eight years. The group has finally teased new music on Instagram in recent weeks so. A new album was first mentioned in fall of 2014 but the band has said that they hope to complete it by the end of 2015. Hopefully, for the sake of Tool fans, Keenan’s recovery doesn’t slow down the new recordings too much.
