Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands – The Absolute Elsewhere

Ethereal sounds inspired by past and present

For their latest album, Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands took to Indiegogo to compose and release The Absolute Elsewhere. Crystal Bright, founder and leader of the band, drew inspiration from the artwork created by Rusty McDonald for this LP. Bright and McDonald also collaborated on album cover and art. The 13 track composition flows strangely but beautifully, and Bright’s vocals enhances your listening experience.

“The End” kicks off the album. The sounds from this all feel like what might be heard at a carnival of the past, but with a folky edge. It begins sounding a bit eerie, but as the song continues the ghostly howling of the accordion is heard. Bright’s soft voice ignites “The End.”

“Forest of Dreams” begins more upbeat and a little more than half way it drops into a somber reflection. It’s a song about loss and love and is reminiscent of what a gypsy caravan might play. “Bajando la Luna” transports the listener to Spain, almost the beginning of an emotional tango. The song is completely in Spanish and Bright delivers. This melody serves as an ode to the moon; it romanticizes the various effects the nocturnal element has on anyone.

The penultimate song, “Torment,” is minimal when it comes to lyrics. The track is carried mainly by the piano and other musical elements. From the lift in Bright’s pitch to the slowing of the piano, the whole composition captures what someone who is tormented may feel.

If you are a first time listener, do not hesitate to pick up The Absolute Elsewhere. Yes, it is out-of-the-box when it comes to the melodies, but the message of each song is relatable. The music produced by Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands creatse a connection with Earth, Mother Nature and experiences that everyone goes through. These tunes may not be up to par with today’s hits but that is what makes it unique. They are definitely worth hearing and experiencing.
