WATCH: Damaged Bug (Thee Oh Sees’ John Dwyer) Releases New Video For “Jet In The Jungle”

Thee Oh Sees’ John Dwyer has taken a brief hiatus from the band that gained him notoriety to undertake a synth-driven side project called Damaged Bug. With a new album releasing in just a couple of days, Dwyer and Damaged Bug has released a video for the “Jet In The Jungle” single featured on the new record.

Dwyer’s new side project has already musically proven itself to have huge potential, and now to complement that potential is a new video for “Jet In The Jungle,” a video that features an amusing animation style. Mixing puppetry with a little bit of hand-drawn, hand-assembled set pieces, the video for “Jet In The Jungle” is a relaxing and enjoyable ride. With the synth-driven rhythms taking you along for the ride, it feels as though we’re in the cockpit with the puppet pilot. The entire video, when accompanied by the musical track, feels like a jaunt through an amateurish attempt at crafting a Disneyland ride. The film constantly flashes back to a countdown timer nestled somewhere in the cockpit, a timer that ticks off furiously as the pilot fends off an otherworldly assault from the sky, an assault that feels as though the pilot may have slipped into the Bermuda Triangle. Although the look of the puppet feels a little bit chilling, the animation style in the film in general makes the short film an exciting little jaunt through an unusual world.

Despite having Dwyer away on this newfound side project, and despite having announced a brief hiatus, Thee Oh Sees’ have still managed to pull together enough time to release new record. Mutilator Defeated At Last was released a couple of weeks ago.

There has been no news yet as to whether Dwyer will take the Damaged Bug project on the road this year.
