Destroyer’s all about the saxophone now, thanks to the direction that Dan Bejar took the group into with the 2011 album Kaputt. The fantastic brass instrument feature prominently once again in the group’s recently-released new single “Dream Lover.”
Destroyer just announced a follow up to their 2011 Kaputt album, and with that announcement comes the release of a brand new single off of the album. “Dream Lover” contains all of the energy and enthusiasm that we saw with the release of that album, and, just like that album, the single also features a soul-stirring saxophone prominently at the forefront of the song. Whether celebrating their new transition into a more brass-oriented sound, or their just happy to be here, the enthusiasm Destroyer brings to this new single blows the door off of any of their previously-released material to date to such an extent that it’s a pity that we won’t get the new album until August. Coupled with the new album announcement and the new single, Destroyer has also announced that it will hit the ground running, confirming a supporting tour for the album that will begin just days after the album releases. There’s no two ways about it: Destroyer is entering a new era, and that era offers new levels of excitement that we hadn’t seen or heard from the group before.
Part Muscle-Shoals-Brass and part New Wave pop, “Dream Lover” is a trumpet that signals Destroyer’s newest foray into a genre and sound that has never been explored by the group before. Even the vocals that are provided by Dan Bejar sound as fresh and inventive as though it were just released hot off the presses right out of the studio. This is truly a must-hear single, and you can your ears feast upon this great track just below the article here.
