The frontman of The Unicorns and Islands, Nick Thorburn, has released a new song under his alias, Nick Diamonds. This new track by Diamonds, titled “Bohemian Groove,” will be included on his upcoming solo release City of Quartz.

“Bohemian Groove” opens with a catchy synth ‘bloop’ and drum looped pop sound. Then, there is a transition that expands on the looped part, and gives the song a feel that is similar to sounds that are present in Carribean music, which is fitting as the lyrics talk about “crashing into you like a wave.”

Due to the multi-layered and multi-part nature of this Diamonds’ song, it is difficult to put into words exactly what instruments – apart from drums – are present on the track, because there is a liberal use of synthesizers to create many of the happy tones heard. But, one thing is certain – “Bohemian Groove” is groovy, and will surely get your head nodding, or feet tapping, along to the beat.

Check it out, below.

In the last year, Diamonds has kept himself busy. His band The Unicorns prepared for and hit the road on an extensive 2014 tour, which even included a performance at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles with Arcade Fire and Dan Deacon. The Unicorns’ 2014 tour was in support of a 10th anniversary re-issue of Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?, the band’s 2003 album. In its re-issued form, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? features four previously unreleased tracks.

Additionally, Diamonds took his main project, Islands, out on the road for an extensive run of tour dates. The band was playing older material from A Sleep & a Forgetting, along with songs off of their most recent record, Ski Mask, which was put out in 2013.

Apart from his work with The Unicorns and Islands, Diamonds composed the theme to -and created original music for – the podcast, SERIAL.

City of Quartz is due out on June 16, 2015, via Manque Music, according to Stereogum.
