You heard that right. The Flaming Lips are working alongside none other than Miley Cyrus on a new L.P.
The collaborative project will be a seven-track album, Rolling Stone reports. What we know so far is that the album was written by both the Flaming Lips and Cyrus last year. While no release date has been announced, it’s been communicated that the album is currently being mixed by the Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd.
Coyne hit it off with Cyrus in 2014 after the two began communicating and sharing similar tastes in art and music. Cyrus went on to provide vocals for the Lips’ recent cover album, “With Little Help from My Fwends,” a tribute the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” She can be heard on “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” and “A Day In The Life,” which she also performed with the band on Conan last year. Cyrus was also a part of the band’s recent art project, “Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain.”
The Flaming Lips played alongside Future Islands this year at SXSW. Cyrus was in Austin this year as well for surprise performance at the Fader Fort. The Lips have a series of other festival performances lined up as well. They’ll be playing at one of Mumford And Sons’ Gentlemen Of The Road Stopovers, Austin Psych Fest, and London’s Victorious Festival.
