Toro y Moi has shared video for “Lilly,” which is taken from the new album What For?.

This new video was made with the help of eyewear giant Ray-Ban and premiered on their “Never Hide Noise” YouTube channel, and “Lily” was directed by creative duo HARRYS.

Of the video, in a press release, HARRYS said, “When he’s not out touring, Chaz is home living the domestic life. The video depicts a typical, ordinary day-in-the-life of Chaz Bundick [Toro y Moi’s frontman and creative force] as he goes shopping for groceries. The store begins grounded in the mundane but gradually slips into another dimension…”

The video opens with a series of aerial shots that depict a city’s suburban sprawl. Then, a jump cut takes viewers to twilight footage of the exterior of a California-based grocery store chain, Super A Foods. After a brief shot of the drummer, basked in blue lighting, viewers find themselves looking at the back of frontman Bundick, who is shown entering the sliding glass doors of Super A Foods. And, as he turns down another isle of the store, the camera zeros in a second character – a brunette woman in a white tank top. The video intercuts between the woman and close ups of the electric guitarist’s hands carefully picking out the notes. When Bundick is shown holding a red (purple?) cabbage, the shot transitions to another location. In this new location, that appears to be a park, Bundick is shown laying on the grass in work attire, while holding the leash to his black dog that is resting quietly nearby.

After another close up of the guitarist’s hands, the shots transition back to Bundick at the grocery store. In this scene, the viewers are briefly introduced to three other shoppers. After one of them, an older woman in blue, drops a glass bottle of tomato sauce – and some other food flies across the screen, as well – the music video transitions back to Bundick in the park.

Eventually, Bundick is revealed to be playing the guitar on a soundstage with his band. And, viewers will recall that this guitar is the one that they saw in close up shots, earlier in the video.
