Dee Dee Penny of Dum Dum Girls has released a new track as HUNI, a new project she’s working on while Dum Dum Girls are on hiatus.
Dee Dee has already been busy playing drums for OCDPP, a punk band that also includes Cassie Ramone and XRay Eyeballs’ OJ. While Dee Dee clearly has plenty of experience in rock with Dum Dum Girls and punk with OCDPP, her new project is a little bit different. HUNI has more of a synthpop vibe, as you can tell by listening to their first single, “Is There Any Other One?” The track is dreamy and mellow with some clear R&B inspiration. Listen to the new song below.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, LA label Body Music will be hosting a free HUNI release party on Monday, May 4. It will take place at Night of Joy in New York City, with DJ sets by Dee Dee, UUV and Young Beto.
Dum Dum Girls went on a North American tour in fall 2014 and performed at Red Bull Sound Select Series 30 Days in LA in November. During their tour, they played cover of “Zombie” by the Cranberries for Halloween , and in December they released a holiday song called “On Christmas.” Though Dum Dum Girls haven’t been active in 2015, they are not done for good, just taking a break.
