Blues artist B.B. King was hospitalized for what his daughter claims is elder abuse by his manager.
B.B. King is 89 years old and his daughter, Patty King, lives with him in Las Vegas. According to Spin, Patty allegedly felt that her father should go to the hospital because he wouldn’t eat. B.B. King’s manager, Laverne Toney, has power of attorney over King and refused to allow him to go to the hospital. Patty then called the authorities who agreed that the blues guitarist should be hospitalized. All of this led to Patty lodging complaints against Toney for elder abuse against her father.
In November 2014, Patty and her husband had accused Toney of elder abuse and burglary. The pair claimed that the manager had conned King out of $20 to $30 million dollars, withheld his medications on tour, and stolen multiple Rolex watches and a ring valued at $250,000 with the help of her assistant. There is no investigation currently, but Patty has said that she wants to meet with a lawyer to discuss the removal of Toney’s power of attorney. B.B. King’s Facebook page was updated after his hospitalization with a message saying, “I am in home hospice care at my residence in Las Vegas. Thanks to all for your well wishes and prayers.”
B.B. King had to cancel several of the shows in his fall 2014 U.S. tour due to illness as well. Fans can stay updated on King’s activity via his website or Facebook.
