Surfer Blood’s guitarist, Thomas Fekete, has launched a GoFundMe campaign. Fekete has been undergoing cancer treatments since December, but his cancer has spread and he is asking for help to continue paying for treatment costs.
On his GoFundMe website, Fekete writes a long letter explaining his cause. He starts off with the following:
“Hey all, A few months back I had a major surgery to remove a large tumor from my abdomen. I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive cancer (a sarcoma), which unfortunately has moved. A few days ago, my doctors informed me that it had spread to my lungs and my spine.”
Fekete goes on to explain that the form of cancer his has is rare. As a result, he has turned to a team of doctors who have developed an alternative treatment plan in addition to chemotherapy. Since this treatment deviates from the norm, Fekete’s insurance will not cover the costs. “I never in my life thought that I would be asking for money publicly, but the universe works in funny ways,” Fekete writes.
Fekete created the fund on April 18, and has raised a little over $40,000 already. 997 people have donated so far, and the fund has a good deal of buzz surrounding it. According to his GoFundMe page, t has been shared 5,500 times on Facebook and Twitter. Fekete has currently set the goal of $76,000.
Those interested in donating to Fekete’s GoFundMe site can do so here. Further information and updates on Fekete’s condition can be found on Sufer Blood’s official website. Below, is a Facebook post Surfer Blood shared about Fekete’s cancer.
