Blur is gearing up for the release of their new album The Magic Whip, which is the first release from the band in over a decade. In promotion for the upcoming project the British rock band has released a few of the tracks that will be on The Magic Whip. Most recently the group released a video for the track “Lonesome Street.”
British band Blur is looking to regain the popularity it once had amongst music fans around the world, but this time their music will be catering to a completely different generation. Previously, Blur revealed the tracks, “Go Out”, “There Are Too Many Of Us”, and most recently,”Lonesome Street.” Today Blur let loose the fourth single from their upcoming The Magic Whip project. The song is titled, “My Terracotta Heart.” “My Terracotta Heart” is an interesting cut to say the least. The song begins with the percussion and guitar melodies creating a dark, smoke room atmosphere. As Damon Albarn enters onto the song the instrumentation comes together fully, and results in a very smooth track. As the second verse hits the introduction of synths, and strings becomes more prominent. The song plays off the theme of “Lonesome Street”, where ones emotions comes heavily into play. In this case Albarn is in the process of getting his heartbroken, and is beginning to realize what is happening to the once perfectly molded relationship. Terracotta is the perfect description for this, because terracotta’s clay like properties and sustainability can be easily broken once dried. Albert sings “I don’t know if I’m losing you again” as if another break up might be unbearable. The track fades out to the vocalizing of Albarn, and the seductive guitar riffs layer over the percussion so nicely that it creates a serenading effect for the listener.
Blur will be performing at Hyde Park on June 20th. The excitement lingering around the release of The Magic Whip is becoming worth-while. Each track released by the group has been pleasant surprise, and has the ability to reach multiple generations of fans. Their upcoming album will be hitting shelves Tuesday April 28th.
