LISTEN: Flying Lotus Releases Collaboration With Kendrick Lamar “Eyes Above”

Following an interview with Kendrick Lamar on BBC Radio 1, rapper and producer Flying Lotus played a previously unreleased collaborative track, “Eyes Above,” that the two had recorded together.

Flying Lotus is doing one-month residency at the radio station and brought Kendrick Lamar on as a guest on April 9. The two artists discussed Lamar’s latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly, as well as the state of hip-hop as a genre and Lamar’s advice to creative young people. After the broadcast of the interview, Flying Lotus premiered a new collaboration called “Eyes Above.”

“Eyes Above” starts fast-paced and rarely slows down, with Lamar’s words flowing steadily over a beat produced by Flying Lotus. The track is loud and in-your-face and has an angry tone permeating throughout its one-minute run. You can listen to the new song below.

The BBC Radio 1 residency and collaborations with Kendrick Lamar aren’t all that’s keeping Flying Lotus busy – in the past few months he released an NSFW video for “Ready Err Not” and a video for “Coronus, The Terminator.” He also released track entitled “Medication Meditation” as part of the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack, and he will be performing at Way Out West 2015 in Sweden.

Kendrick Lamar also has a few festivals lined up for 2015, including San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival and Osheaga 2015 in Montreal. He recently released a video for the track “King Kunta” from his latest album, but don’t miss out on the video’s behind-the-scene footage.
