St. Vincent will be playing alongside famed British Post-Punk Wire at DRILL: Chicago Festival this summer. The two day event will showcase, and bring together a widely varying array of musical talent. St. Vincent added her name to the list of acts yesterday.
Wire is a Post-Punk band that was formed in London in the late 70’s. Almost four decades in and fourteen studio albums later Wire is looking to bring a diverse crowd of musicians together to showcase the diverse landscape of music. Wire is coming off of the recent release of their self-titled fourteenth full length project, Wire, yesterday. The release of the new album will give festival goers the chance to see the new tracks performed live for one of the first times. Along with the release of their new album, the band announced that St. Vincent will be added to the list of acts to accompany them at DRILL: Chicago Festival. St. Vincent is recently coming off of winning Grammy for her self-titled work, St. Vincent, to which she released a deluxe version of back in February. St. Vincent recently released a new song titled “Teenage Talk” in which she continues her blending of genres into mellow alternative track. St. Vincent will be performing alongside Wire at the festival, which takes place June 11th-13th. The ‘Windy City’ will be host to the diverse line up of acts that are Tim Hecker, Disappears, White Lung, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The line up above including St. Vincent will all be performing renditions and covers of Wire songs in their respective sets. The finale of the festival will feature an “all-star” St. Vincent will be performing an extended version of Wire’s 1977 debut album Pink Flag. St. Vincent will be performing a rendition of the band’s song “Drill.” St. Vincent’s style differs from Wire’s Post-Punk essence. This occurrence is what DRILL festival aims to accomplish. The DRILL Festival motto is,
“Genre-defying evolution is the hallmark of post-punk legends Wire’s career. Now, nearly forty years into its existence, Wire is breathing new life into small, curated festivals built on artistic kinship across divergent musical styles, influences, and generations. That festival is DRILL.”
St. Vincent will be performing at the Coachella Music Festival the next two upcoming weekends, and will be on tour deep into the summer of 2015. Hopefully, she will continue to release amazing visuals to accompany the tracks off of her Grammy winning project, and also release new material such as “Teenage Talk.” The DRILL: Chicago patrons have the unique opportunity to see a myriad of artists from different genres sharing one stage. St. Vincent’s musical stylings can be described as genre-less, and seeing how she will mend her sound to fit to Wire’s should give fans a mind-blowing experience.
