Desaparecidos has announced the release of their new album Payola. The album is due for release on June 23 via Epitaph.

Payola is Desaparecidos’ first new album in 13 years. Alongside announcing the album release date, the group has also released the single “City on the Hill” from the album. This single was first released to Pitchfork, but can also be viewed below.

Payloa is described as a raw, louder, and angrier album compared to the first one Desaparecidos dropped in 2002. As a group, Desaparecidos’ path has been somewhat unusual. Formed in 2001, after releasing their debut album, Read Music / Speak Spanish, the group went on hiatus until 2010, but never officially broke up.

The group has reunited for a few performances and releases in 2010 and 2012. Most notably the group self-released tracks in 2012 including “Te Amo Camila Vallejo” and “The Underground Man.” Desaparecidos’ sophomore album Payola includes six previously released tracks and eight new tracks from the band. The album is said to deal with political issues. “City On The Hill” has a very edgy sound as the drums and guitar have a metered sound. Cursive guitarist Tim Kasher joins the group on this intense track. The opening lines alone set the tone for the entire song. “All the founding fathers sowed their seeds in the servant girls/ All the colored heathens had to/ leave to make a newer world/ So we could live together in America/ justice is blind and so is love.”

Desaparecidos is also scheduled to perform in a few upcoming festivals including Coachella, Forecastle, Wrecking Ball and Osheaga.
