WATCH: Blur Release New Video For “Lonesome Street”

Blur are on the verge of releasing their first new record in about twelve years, and to accompany the record, they have released a new video for “Lonesome Street,” the first featured single off of the record.

Blur seem to have a fantastic enthusiasm for Asian culture. It has been a key component to a couple of their last videos, and the culture features prominently in their video for “Lonesome Street,” the main featured single off of their first record in twelve years. The video features the Phoenix Fly Line Dancing Group of San Francisco, and their charming choreography lends new level of appreciation to “Lonesome Street” that simply can’t be attained by merely listening to the record. The video begins with what is presumed to be one of the lead dancers of the group gracefully moving around the stage on his own. About halfway through the video, he is joined by a woman of the group who begin to dance together with all the chemistry of a dance group that has been dancing for decades. The yellow curtain behind the dancers eventually rises to reveal the full troupe dancing, with several onlookers present in the background. It makes for a very enjoyable video, one that is fairly unique amongst other music videos of its caliber.

Blur, who has been proclaimed as one of the most significant British acts of the last twenty years, will be releasing The Magic Whip, their first record in about twelve years, on April 28th. The record will feature the full Blur lineup of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree, who have been performing together in an on-again, off-again capacity since their eponymous 1997 record. They have also been confirmed to be performing at this year’s British Summer Time Festival on June 20th.

Doug Farrell: Am I a hip old lady that can hip-hop, be-bop, dance 'til you drop, and yo-yo make a wicked hot cup of co-co? No, but I am a struggling twenty-eight year old writer who loves music and writing about music.
