LISTEN: Heartless Bastards Release New Song “Gates Of Dawn”

Austin-based blues-rockers Heartless Bastards have unveiled the first single off their upcoming fifth record Restless Ones, due to be released June 16 on Partisan Records.

“Gates of Dawn,” premiered on KCRW last night, gives a general impression of the Restless Ones sounding – mature, solid tune with Erika Wennerstrom’s powerful vocal manipulations and charisma. As reported by KCRW, the single was produced by Grammy-award winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen) and recorded over 10 days at Sonic Ranch, a pecan orchard in El Paso, with Wennerstrom’s inspiration in literary touchstones like Haruki Murakami and Jack Kerouac for her lyrics.

Aptly mentioned by NPR, the album’s name Restless Ones is for a reason: the band spent much of that stretch touring and otherwise traveling, and didn’t settle down long enough to record new material until late in the summer of 2014.

Heartless Bastards, recent SXSW performers and already announced participants at 2015’s Maverick Music Festival, are making a nice first move towards their next big summer release, hoping to beat the No. 78 chart position of their previous record Arrow, released back in 2012.
