Color Therapy is an electronic music artist who remains mysterious to audiences. He has stated that he mixes his music “somewhere in Dallas.” His music is also a mystery, filled with synthesizers that set an ambient tone throughout. It’s also completely instrumental. Adding on to that idea, sometimes instrumental songs are able to reach a listener’s imagination just as much as songs with lyrics can. The stories that Color Therapy creates without using lyrics are very powerful and they allow a lot of room for dreaming. His captivating tracks, crafted in such a natural way, show listeners that Color Therapy has a lot of potential and will only become an even more polarizing voice in the industry later on down the road.
Color Therapy has said, “I enjoy being recommended how to feel as a listener, versus being told.” This quote sums up a lot of what Color Therapy is able to capture with each and every one of these tracks. The downside to that is sometimes it can be difficult to pinpoint which songs are standouts since they all provoke different emotions for everyone.
With that being said, “Terrarium” (a collaboration with The Album Leaf) is a track that stays consistently happy and upbeat throughout, for those listeners that enjoy those types of tracks. “Wyoming” is a song title that immediately sets the tone of being a sad and lonely western ambient theme song. It gradually builds to a more upbeat track, but the initial statement it makes in the beginning minutes is extremely powerful. “The Dusk Mother” begins with a piano, setting the tone as somber and emotional. Mr. Wolf Is Dead is filled with songs that are layered with emotion and are also able to paint incredible imagery.
Mr. Wolf Is Dead is a debut album that could also easily work as a score or soundtrack for a movie. Color Therapy was inspired by scores, which is undeniable in this LP that swings through emotion after emotion. A uniquely imaginative project, this is one that listeners don’t want to miss.
