Heavy metal band GWAR have announced special performance for Record Store Day. Many will be converging on Mesa, Arizona on April 18th for National Record Store Day, and the festivities that accompany the big event.
GWAR is set to take the stage under their anti-moniker RAWG, and will be releasing a bunch of material for their loyal fans. The National Record Store Day performance will take place at Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona on April 18th. The announcement comes shortly after GWAR released information detailing the 2015 GWAR B-Q. To emphasize the gravity of how special this event is, Metal Blade Records will be releasing an exclusive double LP version of GWAR’s third album America Must Be Destroyed, which was previously only available in vinyl form through import from the UK. The special release of America Must Be Destroyed comes with an original color insert with song lyrics, a certificate of authenticity, and a pop up of the band’s pet dinosaur “Gor Gor.” The last of the three perks makes the purchase totally worth it. GWAR will also be releasing a DVD for their Grammy- nominated Phallus In Wonderland project on April 21st in a new smaller CD packaging.
GWAR is making themselves accessible to their fans if said fans are “worthy,” by possibly signing copies of GWAR CDs, taking pictures with fans, and having a raffle with special prizes that include an airbrushed guitar signed by the members of GWAR. And in what may be the coolest part of it all, an agreement made between the “slaves” and GWAR will have RAWG making an appearance across the street from the Nile Theater at Asylum later on that day.
When asked about the National Record Store Day performance, one of the band’s guitarists Pustulus Maximus had this to say about the festivities surrounding the National Record Store Day performance.
“I used to like Chinese food, now I don’t give a fuck”
Truer words have most definitely never been spoken. GWAR is celebrating their 30th year together as a group, and the members of GWAR are making sure to show their appreciation to fans for supporting them since the band’s inception in 1984. GWAR’s unorthodox nature featuring their outfits, masks, and “nut-busting” sound has garnered a cult following full of people who are equally as crazy as the members of GWAR. To celebrate the anniversary, the 6th annual GWAR B-Q will be taking place in the bands hometown of Richmond, Virginia on Saturday August 15th. If you want to show your worship for GWAR you don’t want to miss this once in a lifetime experience on April 18th at National Record Store Day.
