Built To Spill recently announced a new record, and now, to couple that announcement, the band has released a new video for “Living Zoo,” a single off of the upcoming record.
It’s hard not to be excited about Built To Spill this year. Their newest record, Untethered Moon is set to be released in April, and they’ve recently released a new video for a single off of the new record. The new video for “Living Zoo” is a fun ride, presented in a “buddy flick” kind of style. It features two friends who are especially jazzed about an upcoming “big trip.” The video opens on the eve of their big trip, and we are taken along throughout the journey.
Perhaps expectedly, the two friends are off on a journey to the woods, whether to commune with nature, or simply have a nice, relaxing time of it outside of the confines of society. The pair stumble upon a sort of forest clan, the members of which are clad in robes and masks that are reminiscent of Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. The two buddies are invited to a feast by the group and then are treated to a “magic show.” Without giving too much away about the plot of the video, the vibes get weird, and the progression of the video from that point gets even weirder from there.
Punctuated by subtitles and featuring a pleasant, albeit strange, story, the video for “Living Zoo” is a fun experience through and through. The song accompanies the video quite perfectly and feels like a single that’s more or less influenced by R.E.M. An enjoyable track with a catchy backbeat and fantastic vocal melodies from Built To Spill, the video for “Living Zoo” offers up a huge and exciting promise for the new record.
Untethered Moon will be out in April. Built To Spill will also be running a tour this Spring to promote the record.
