LISTEN: SBTRKT Release New Song “FLAREtWO”

SBTRKT is making the most of the time they have. A few short months after the release of their latest record, SBTRKT has dropped a brand new single on us called “FLAREtWO.”

It hasn’t been that long since SBTRKT dropped their latest record, Wonder Where We Land, and yet that hasn’t stopped them from releasing brand new single, taking everyone by surprise. It may be that the group gained a huge amount of motivation in the aftermath of cancelling a portion of their Fall tour, or it may be that, for SBTRKT, time is always of the essence. Whatever the reason, we are thankful to be on the receiving end of a new single, hot off the presses.

“FLAREtWO” is as off-kilter as SBTRKT has ever gotten, and yet the rhythmical imbalance of the single doesn’t take the listener out of it. It’s a single that seems to be one of those songs that one listens to after a long day (or long week, if you like) at the office. It’s so far-out in terms of its sound and production that it becomes easy to unwind to. There’s no straight path in the song- it’s a long, winding road, but it leads to nowhere in particular, and that’s the thing that makes it incredible. Their previous record sought a pursuit of a bit of a smoother groove in comparison to their other records and singles, but “FLAREtWO” is a complete 180 from that. Where Wonder intentionally flatlined in parts to ease the listener, “FLAREtWO” yanks the listener out of their chair and launches them into outer space.

Although “FLAREtWO” shows a whole lot of promise from SBTRKT, there’s been no talk yet of a new record, or a new musical project of any kind from the group. One can only hope that this new single leads into a fantastic new record that will rhythmically follow along with “FLAREtWO.” For now, the single is all we have to build enthusiasm off of. The single is available for your listening pleasure right here on MXDWN.
