Raekwon Says He Will Not Tour With Wu-Tang Clan

Raekwon, one of the leading Wu-Tang Clan members, has stated he won’t be touring with the band this summer. But the reason isn’t a fight inside the band; it’s poor management, according to the rapper.

“I ain’t going on the road with Wu-Tang this year,” Raekwon continued in reference to the group’s upcoming UK live shows. “Fans will think it’s beef in the group, but it’s all management.”

He added: “I didn’t know shit about the tour. They just assume I’m good to be there and put it all together, but by then I got obligations, a fucking schedule. It’s frustrating, ‘cos I’d love to be there.”

Speaking in the new issue of NME, the rapper also complained about the ‘boringness’ of the new WTC album A Better Tomorrow, the band’s 20th-anniversary record. As mentioned by Raekwon, the album, released last December, was driven by fellow Wu-Tang member and founder RZA.

He admitted: “That album felt kinda bored. And that’s not just my opinion. The music was just too soft. Too humble. I felt like the album could have been better. I voiced my opinion, like, ‘Yo, let’s give them some real shit!’ The album was driven more to RZA’s expectations. He was coming from one way, we was wanting to try something new.”

Raekwon, who has been an active performer at this year’s SXSW events like Rachel Ray’s Feedback and DOxPBR Day parties, and this year’s performer at Coachella as a duo with his fellow Wu-Tang rapper Ghostface Killah, releases his sixth solo album Fly International Luxurious Art on April 28. Speaking to NME about the record, he confirmed it was his “number one most dope album.”
