Soulful rock and rollers Heartless Bastards are making strides this year with a new album set to release in June followed by a summer tour.
Heartless Bastards have crafted a deeply rooted rock and roll sound that borders on bluesy chords and blue collar-sounding vocals. The band has shades of Spoon with a more downtrodden raw sound. According to a press release, the new album Restless Ones (set to be released June 16), was recorded in El Paso providing “the perfect setting, miles away from all real world responsibilities and thus able to fully invest themselves in the act of creation.”
Singer/songwriter Erika Wannerstrom explains:
“We took a lot of chances taking the sounds in different directions in order to grow. I don’t ever want to make the same album twice.”
The group began work on their album in 2014 after a couple of years of touring. Providing more fluid songwriting sessions, the band collaborated on all levels going so far as providing a communal atmosphere in living together throughout the songwriting process. The band finished recording last fall and, having just finished some SXSW showcases, are also preparing for a summer tour with Craig Finn as support for many of the shows. The tour will consist of the following dates with more to be announced soon.
