The neo-soul quartet, Hiatus Kaiyote, have a new album due out on May 4th. And in support of their upcoming release, Choose Your Weapon, the group will be headed out on a tour of North America. They’ll kick things off in New York on the day the album drops, and then they’ll make their way to Philly on May 8th. You can catch Hiatus Kaiyote when they perform at Underground Arts.
They debuted a ton of new material at SXSW just last week. If you missed the Austin festival, you’ll definitely want to grab your tickets to catch Hiatus Kaiyote when they take the stage in Philly this spring! Their upcoming release in the highly anticipated follow up to the band’s stunning debut, Tawk Tomahawk. They’ve received praise from artists like Prince and Questlove. In fact, Questlove likes them so much that he’s added them to this year’s Roots Picnic lineup. The Roots Picnic goes down at the end of May, so Philly fans have double the chance to see this rising talent.
Hiatus Kaiyote have been making a name for themselves since their 2013 release. Even earning themselves a Grammy nomination for the track “Nakamarra,” a song which features hip-hop legend, Q-Tip. But now it’s their newest single, “Breathing Underwater,” which is taking everyone by storm. The band’s frontwoman Nai Palm has stated the song pays “homage to the different examples of love and compassion in the world that are beyond the limitation of romance.” Take a listen for yourself here.
