Snoop Dogg Announces He Is Working On An HBO Series

During Snoop Dogg’s keynote speech at SXSW this past Friday, he revealed that he is currently developing an HBO drama with Menace II Society director Allen Hughes and The Boondocks writer Rodney Barnes.

The show will focus on a family living in Los Angeles during the early 1980s and will depict a family struggling through the effects of the Reagan-era. The show will use some aspects of Snoop Dogg’s real life during that time as he lived in Long Beach at the time.

During his Keynote, on the TV show’s premise, Snoop stated, “When Reaganomics kicked in, certain things were taken away, after-school programs and things of that nature.”

‘Guns and drugs were shipped into the neighborhood. So it was a shift of having fun and playing football to selling drugs and shooting at each other. To me it was a system that was designed, because when the Reaganomics era began, that’s when this began.’

Snoop will be the executive producer of the show. During his Q&A, Snoop described HBO as “number one network in the world as far as developing and making these shows come to life”.

“This is like a dream come true, to tell a story in the right way on the right network.”

Later that day, Snoop posted a Yakit video on Instagram that he created, speaking to Reagan about these allegations.
