When Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga set out to do an album of jazz standards early last year, few would have predicted it could have gone so well. Bennett, the clean-cut elder statesman of vocal pop and jazz, making an album with a burlesque top-40 upstart? Not a chance. In spite of any reasonable doubts, the production of the album went amazing, and the pair went on to win a grammy. Somehow, many people were unaware Lady Gaga was actually a singer, and a damn good one too.
Now, due to the success of the album and irresistible charm of seeing these two icons perform together, they have announced a worldwide, yet very selective tour that will see them perform some of the standards from Cheek to Cheek. New Yorkers should consider themselves lucky: the duo will play four times at Radio City Music Hall this June. This will likely be the highpoint of the tour, given that both artists are from New York, and honed their craft in the clubs around the city (albeit at very different times).
Tickets are predictably expensive, with prices rising easily into the thousand-dollar range, but this is sure to be an iconic New York event, complete with all the glamour one would expect from these artists at such an historic venue. With few tickets left already, any serious fan should be sure to act quickly, or miss this act that will likely never tour together again.
